Coping Strategies
There are various techniques that we can use to help us cope with stress more effectively.
When we are in the stress it is very difficult to see the wood for the tree’s try to imagine your situation being played out in an episode of East Enders or Corrie, what advice would you give your character?
Chunk the problem down into bite sized pieces giving you the ability to deal with one little bit at a time.
Emotional grief from loss or divorce needs time and support.
With emotions ranging from Anger, bitter, scared, happy, sad, inconsolable, embarrassed? It’s the gamut of emotions, and sometimes they all come in one day. Their target, you.
You think to yourself:
“Why did I do this?”
“Why did the person do this to me?”
“I don’t deserve this.”
“This wasn’t in our five or ten year plans.”
“I didn’t know how he/she was not happy!”
“If only we had talked, really talked…”
Counselling, and associations such as Cruse and relate offer much needed advice and support.
Exercise is vital during times of stress, helping us to release endorphins natures happy hormones, it also gets us out of a rut and allows breathing space to be able to start problem solving.
