What is Prostatitis?

Prostatitis means the prostate might be inflamed or irritated. If you have prostatitis, you may have a burning feeling when you urinate, or you may have to urinate more often. Or you may have a fever or just feel tired.

Inflammation in any part of the body is usually a sign that the body is fighting germs or repairing an injury. Bacteria, tiny organisms that can cause infection or disease, cause some kinds of prostatitis. A visit to your GP and a simple water test to check for bacteria can confirm this diagnosis, and usually a course of antibiotics are recommended. If you are prone to recurrent bought of prostatitis, there are many natural solutions that can help reduce inflammation and the frequency of attack.

Buchu is a particularly helpful herb, with its natural anti bacterial components helping to ease urinary tract infections, Buchu works well when combined with Saw Palmetto, which helps to reduce inflammation in the prostate.

The Antioxidant Nutrients such as Zinc, selenium and Vitamin E have all been shown to help support the prostate and immune system, and a daily antioxidant nutrient is recommended, this should be combined with increasing the nutrient rich super vegetables such as broccoli, kale, and butternut squash. Fruits are important too, however orange juice can be a little to acidic, a good alternative is fresh cherry and cranberry juice, which have been found to help ease urinary tract discomfort. Essential fats such as nuts, seeds and oily fish can help to reduce prostate inflammation, eating a handful of pumpkin seeds daily can provide you with these fats and a source of zinc, I recommend taking 3 teaspoons of Eicosanoil per day, which provides your daily need of omega 3, 6, and 9 essential fats.
